The Fiery Wall

Not by my might, not by my power, But by Your Spirit in this hour, I ask for Your consuming flame, To surround me in Your holy name.

Holy Ghost fire, surround me. Let it be a blazing rim, A sacred light,not burning dim. A wall of glory,fierce and bright, That stands between me and the night.

Let it be a ring of grace, A boundary line around this place— My mind,my soul, my walk, my ways, For all my life,and all my days.

“I will be a wall of fire around it,” declares the Lord, “and I will be its glory within.” (Zechariah 2:5)

Let this fire burn up the chaff, The worthless things,the empty laugh. Let it purify my desire, With Your refining,holy fire.

Let it terrify the foe, And make his every arrow slow. No evil thing can cross that line, For it is holy and divine.

A rim of protection, Not to hide me from the fight, But to be my shield and light. To guard my going out,my in, From subtle darkness,from blatant sin.

You are my guard, my constant shield, My sure defense,my fortress real. Within this ring,I need not fear, For You,my God, are ever near.

So I stand within this ring of flame, And praise Your mighty,holy name. Purified and safe am I, Beneath Your watchful,fiery eye.
