God does not give spirit of fear, but power, love and a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7 is a powerful and encouraging verse, especially in times of fear or uncertainty. It is a reminder of the spirit God has given to believers, contrasting it with the spirit of the world.

Here is the verse, a breakdown of its meaning, and a poem of affirmation.

---

The Verse (NKJV):

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."

Breaking Down This Powerful Promise:

This verse is a direct counter-attack against the feelings that often plague us. It makes a clear distinction between what does not come from God and what does.

1. What God Has NOT Given Us:

· "A spirit of fear": Other translations say "a spirit of timidity" (NIV) or "fearfulness" (AMPC). This refers to a cowardly, cowering spirit that paralyzes us and prevents us from living boldly for Christ. Fear is not our inheritance from God; it is a tool of the enemy.

2. What God HAS Given Us: He has given us a three-fold gift through the Holy Spirit who lives in us:

· Power (Dunamis): This is the Greek word for miraculous, dynamic, and overcoming power. It is the same power that raised Christ from the dead (Ephesians 1:19-20). It is the ability to do what God calls us to do, even when we feel weak.

· Love (Agape): This is the self-sacrificial, unconditional love of God. This love casts out fear (1 John 4:18) and empowers us to serve others and represent Christ well, even in difficult circumstances.

· A Sound Mind (Sophronismos): This means discipline, self-control, sound judgment, and a well-ordered life. It is a mind that is fortified against chaos, panic, and confusion. It is the ability to think clearly and make wise decisions based on God's truth, not our emotions.

A Poem of Declaration:

Not Fear, But Power

The spirit given is not one of dread, That fills the anxious heart with dread. It does not cower, shake, or flee, This is not what He gave to me.

For God Himself has spoken clear, To banish every doubt and fear: “I have not given you a spirit of fear,” So that truth is what I hear.

But what He gives is strong and true, A threefold gift to make me new: “But of POWER…”to stand and fight, In His resurrection’s mighty might. To speak the truth,to do the deed, To follow where His Spirit will lead.

“And of LOVE…” that casts out fright, A perfect love that shines so bright. To see the world through His own eyes, And serve with grace, and recognize That I am His,and He is mine, In love’s strong, unbreakable line.

“And of a SOUND MIND…” calm and sure, A mind in Christ, secure and pure. A disciplined and ordered thought, By the Spirit’s wisdom taught. Not chaos, panic, or despair, But trust in His unfailing care.

So when the fear begins to rise, I’ll lift my voice and fix my eyes Not on the storm, but on the One, The Father’s own beloved Son. And I will claim this gift He gave, I will be bold, and strong, and brave.

For this is my inheritance, Not fearful timidity, but a chance To live in power, love, and peace, As His reign in me will never cease.

A Simple Prayer:

"Heavenly Father, thank you for the truth of your Word. I reject the spirit of fear that does not come from you. Right now, I receive and activate the Spirit you have given me: your power to overcome, your love to cast out fear, and your sound mind to think clearly and wisely. Fill me afresh with your Holy Spirit, that I may live boldly for you today. In Jesus' name, Amen."
