This is the deepest and most essential cry of the Christian heart—a surrender to the presence, power, and person of the Holy Spirit. It is an invitation for Him to have His way in you.
Here is a prayer and poem for that sacred descent.

The Sacred Descent
I am not enough. My strength is vain, My best intentions, often strain. I need a power not my own, To make Your life in me fully known.
I do not ask for just a feeling, But for Your presence, deeply healing. I do not seek a simple sign, But for Your life to merge with mine.
Holy Spirit, fall upon me.
Come as You came at Pentecost, To a waiting room,no longer lost. Come with the sound of rushing wind, And new life from deep within.
“For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 1:5)
Come with the tongues of living flame, To burn up sin and cleanse my shame. To set my heart forever free, To truly love and follow Thee.
Fall upon my mind and thought, With truth and wisdom I’ve been taught. Fall upon my hands and feet, To make my service full and sweet.
Fall upon my eyes and ears, To see Your hand, dismiss my fears. To hear Your voice,so still and clear, And know that You are always near.
This is not for me alone, But so that Christ may be made known. So Your fruit in me may grow, And Living Water from me flow.
Holy Spirit, fall. I am Your vessel,I am Your home. Upon this altar,I am Thine alone. Consume me,fill me, have Your way, Beginning in my life today.
In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray.
Amen.
