Make me your dwelling place.

This is a breathtaking and profound prayer. It echoes the deepest desire of God's heart for intimate communion with His people. Here is a prayerful poem in response.

Make Me Your Dwelling Place

Not just a visitor, a passing guest, For one brief hour, then off to the rest. Not just a shelter from the storm and strife, But the central residence of Your life.

Make me Your dwelling place.

Clear out the clutter of my pride and fear, The selfish ambitions I’ve held so dear. Sweep clean the corners where shadows still lie, Until my soul is a welcoming sky.

Let every thought be a room You can fill, Let every passion submit to Your will. Let my heart be an altar where fire burns bright, And my will be a doorway, welcoming light.

I offer not grandeur, but simple, bare space, A vessel for mercy,a channel for grace. I offer the brokenness, piece by small piece, And ask for the shalom that will not cease. “In him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”(Ephesians 2:22)

Let Your Word find a home deep within, Uprooting the vestiges of old sin. Let prayer be the language this household will speak, Where You are the strength that supports all the weak.

And when the world knocks with its worry and sound, Let the first voice it hears from me be Heaven’s own sound. Let love be the fragrance that flows from the door, BecauseYou are the dweller, forevermore.

So come, Holy Spirit, descend like a dove, With comfort and power and fatherly love. Take all of the keys to each room in my soul. Make me Your dwelling place, Lord, make me whole.

“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” — John 14:23
