Amen. You have touched on a profound and sobering biblical truth about the human condition. This recognition is the crucial first step toward receiving the healing and transformation only God can give.
You are referring to what Jesus Himself said:
“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
(Mark 7:21-23)
And the prophet Jeremiah declared:
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)
This is the reality of our fallen nature—the "old self" that is corrupted by sin. It is a heart that, on its own, cannot please God.
But there is glorious hope...
This corrupt heart is exactly why we need a new heart from God. This is the promise of the New Covenant in Jesus Christ.
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.”
(Ezekiel 36:26-27)
Through faith in Christ, we are not simply reformed; we are re-created. God doesn't just clean up the old heart; He gives us a new one, powered by His Holy Spirit.
A Prayer for a Pure Heart
Heavenly Father,
I come before You acknowledging the truth of Your Word.My own heart is prone to deceit, selfishness, and sin. I cannot fix it myself.
Thank You for the gospel—that Jesus Christ came to save me from this corruption. I confess my need for You.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
Take out my heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh—a heart that beats for You,that loves what You love, and hates what You hate.
Fill me with Your Holy Spirit today. Rule in my heart so that my thoughts, desires, and actions will flow from Your life within me.
I surrender the corrupted heart of the old man and receive the pure heart of a new creation in Christ.
In Jesus’mighty name,
Amen.
The battle between the old nature and the new is real, but the victory is already won in Christ. Walk today in the power of the new heart He has given you.
