Lord, we plead for mercy.

Of course. That is a prayer that echoes from the depths of the human heart, found throughout Scripture. Here is a poetic prayer for God's mercy.

---

Have Mercy On Your Children, Lord

Have mercy on us, Father, Lord, According to Your faithful word. Not for our worth, but for Your grace, Upon our sin,Your love now trace.

Have mercy on our wandering feet, That chose the alley, not the street Of righteousness. We turned away And squandered all You gave that day. “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way.”(Isaiah 53:6)

Have mercy on our stubborn will, That fights submission to You still. The pride that whispers we know best, And robs our souls of truest rest. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.(Psalm 51:17)

Have mercy on our faithless hearts, That fracture into anxious parts. We doubt Your hand,we fear the night, Forgive our terror at the fight. “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”(Mark 9:24)

Have mercy on our weary souls, As waves of trouble roll and roll. We have no strength to reach the shore, We cry to You,we beg the more. “Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; Lord, hear my voice.”(Psalm 130:1-2)

Have mercy, as You always do, And make our failing hearts anew. Not just to pardon what is past, But hold us firm, and hold us fast. “The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning.”(Lamentations 3:22-23)

Let mercy fall like gentle rain, To wash away the guilt and stain. And in its place,a whisper soft, A promise whispered from the loft: “My child, my grace is all you need, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”(2 Corinthians 12:9)

So we come not for what we’ve earned, But for the mercy we have spurned. We come because we heard it said, You rose up from among the dead.

And at Your throne, we make our plea, For sinners,Lord, You set us free. So have mercy on Your children, now, To Your sufficient grace,we bow.
