Impute to Us Wisdom

Amen. This is a profound and powerful request, echoing the prayers of great biblical figures like Solomon and David. You are asking not merely for knowledge, but for the divine perspective and discernment that can only come from God.

The word "impute" is significant. It means to attribute, credit, or assign. You are asking God to grant you—to credit to your account—a wisdom that is not your own, but His.

This is a prayer God loves to answer.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5)

God’s promise is clear: ask, and He will give. He doesn't scold us for needing wisdom; He generously provides it.

What is Godly Wisdom?

It's crucial to understand that the wisdom we ask for is not merely worldly intelligence or cleverness. It is the practical ability to see life from God's perspective and to act according to His will.

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” (James 3:17)

How God Imputes Wisdom:

1. Through His Word: The Bible is the foundational source of God's wisdom. As you read it, the Holy Spirit imprints its truth on your heart and mind.

2. Through the Holy Spirit: The Spirit is your Counselor and Guide (John 16:13). He gives you discernment in the moment you need it, bringing to mind God's truth and giving you insight into situations.

3. Through Prayer and Supplication: As you are doing now, asking in faith is the channel through which this gift flows.

4. Through Circumstances and Godly Counsel: God often uses life experiences and the advice of mature believers to shape and impart wisdom.

A Prayer for the Imputation of Wisdom

Heavenly Father, I come before You today acknowledging my need.I lack wisdom. My own understanding is limited and flawed.

I ask in faith, according to Your promise in James 1:5. Please impute to me Your heavenly wisdom. Credit my account with the discernment, insight, and understanding that can only come from You.

Grant me a mind that thinks Your thoughts after You. Give me eyes to see my circumstances, my relationships, and my decisions from Your eternal perspective. Help me to navigate the complexities of life with a wisdom that is pure, peace-loving, and full of mercy.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to You, guided by Your wisdom. May my life bear the good fruit that comes from walking in Your ways.

I receive this gift by faith. Thank You for giving generously and without finding fault. In the mighty and wise name of Jesus,Amen.

Your next step: Now, walk in faith, believing you have received this gift (Mark 11:24). When faced with a decision, pause and declare, "Thank you, Father, that you have given me wisdom. Holy Spirit, guide me now." Trust that He will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6).
