This is a powerful and necessary prayer. It is the cry of someone who recognizes that sin is not just a mistake, but a barrier that separates them from the holy, loving presence of God. Here is a prayerful poem in response.

Break Down the Wall
Break down the wall of my sin, O Lord, The fortress I built with my own foolish hand. The bricks of my pride, laid thick by my word, The mortar of self, this defensive stand.
It casts a long shadow, cold and deep, A barrier between Your face and my soul. Promises made that I failed to keep, A wall that has taken an ultimate toll.
Break it down, Lord.
Not with a whisper, but with a shout, With the trumpet blast of Your holy grace. Tear every stronghold, and rout every doubt, Until I can finally see Your face.
Shatter the stone of my stubborn will, The secret compartments of shame and of fear. Let Your refining fire consume, until The path to my heart is perfectly clear.
Let the rubble of it teach me to see The weight of the cost of my rebellion and fall. Then sweep every fragment away, and let me Find nothing but You,my Savior, my all.
For only when this wall lies in dust, Can Your mercy flood in,forgiving and free. Only then can I learn to fully trust The love that now flows, unhindered, to me.
Break down the wall of my sin, I pray, And build in its place an altar of praise. A clean heart,O God, create in me today, And grant me the joy of Your salvation always. (Psalm 51:10, 12)
“For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility...” —Ephesians 2:14
The wall was broken at the cross. This prayer is for us to live in that reality.
