Set the captives free

Amen. This is the very mission of Christ, proclaimed in His first sermon and fulfilled at the cross. Here is a poem declaring this powerful truth.

---

Set The Captives Free

The Spirit of the Lord is on me still, To answer heaven’s eternal will. He has anointed me to preach good news, To break the chains and loose the binding screws. “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”(Isaiah 61:1)

To set the captives free from dungeon deep, From promises they could not keep. To open doors that were sealed shut, And heal the soul that was cut.

Free from the prison of addiction’s night, Free to walk in the Spirit’s light. Free from the guilt that held them fast, Free from a unforgivable past. “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”(John 8:36)

Free from the fear that steals all breath, Free from the spiritual power of death. Free from the lies they’ve come to trust, Rising up from the grave’s dark dust.

This is the year of the Lord’s own favor, Displayed in Christ, our mighty Savior. He took the keys from the enemy’s hand, And now we walk in this free land.

So proclaim it now with a holy shout, Let the prisoners of hope come out! The chains are broken, the debt is paid, The foundation for freedom forever laid.

Set the captives free! For the Son has made us free indeed!

Amen.
