How Great is our God.

 How Great Is Our God

How great is our God—beyond all thought and measure,

The source and summit of all pleasure, treasure.

The One who was before the“was” began to be,

And holds the ages in His hand, yet bends to look on me.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. (Psalm 145:3)

His greatness is the mountain, firm against the sky.

His greatness is the ocean, deep and broad and high.

His greatness is the thunder in the tempest-cloud,

Yet in the whispered promise, just as true and loud.

How great is His power—the breath that filled the void,

The Voice the stars and galaxies rush to,overjoyed.

The strength that shattered death’s own door and rolled the stone away,

And lives today to be my strength,my fortress, and my stay.

How great is His love—that chose a crown of thorn,

That bore the weight of all my sin,of all my shame and scorn.

A love so high,so long, so deep, so wide it spanned the space

Between His holy heart and my unworthy, rebel face.

How great is His name—the name above all other,

Before whom every knee will bow,on earth and heaven, brother.

The name of Jesus, matchless King, to whom all praise belongs,

The theme and climax of creation’s everlasting songs.

At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11)

So let my soul and all that’s in me join the cosmic sound,

And let this truth in every fiber of my being be found:

How great, how glorious, how good, how strong, how loving is our God!

From everlasting unto everlasting, let this cry ring out abroad.

Amen.

Reflections on His Greatness

The greatness of God is not a single attribute, but the sum of all He is—His power, wisdom, holiness, justice, mercy, and love—in infinite perfection.

· Unfathomable Yet Knowable: While His greatness is beyond our full comprehension (Psalm 145:3), He has revealed His character to us in creation, Scripture, and ultimately in the person of Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:15). We can know Him, even as we are amazed by His infinite depth.

· The Reason for Worship: His greatness is the foundation of all true worship. We do not worship a manageable deity, but the awesome, transcendent Creator who is also our intimate Father. This inspires both holy fear and overwhelming love.

· Our Secure Foundation: Because He is great, we can be small. Our security rests not in our own strength, but in His. As the old hymn says, “His chariots of wrath the deep thunder clouds form, and dark is His path on the wings of the storm.” Yet this same mighty God is our refuge and stronghold (Nahum 1:3, 7).

To declare “How great is our God” is to anchor your soul in the only reality stable enough to hold you, now and forever.
