Dwell in our heart, O Lord.
Not as a passing guest who stays the night,
But as the Master of the house, the everlasting Light.
Come, take up residence in every chamber, every part;
Establish here Your kingdom, here, within our heart.
I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. (Ephesians 3:16-17)
Dwell in our heart.
Sweep clean the halls where other loves have lain.
Break every idol, every selfish, hidden chain.
Where fear has made its fortress, be our courage and our peace.
Where sorrow left its hollow, let Your healing joy increase.
Let Your Word find root here, growing deep and true.
Let Your will be done here, in all we think and do.
May every beat of this heart’s rhythm learn to sync with Yours,
As love becomes the motive and the source of all our courses.
For we are Your temple.
You have promised this great mystery so grand:
That You would make Your home within the dust of mortal man.
Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? (1 Corinthians 3:16)
So come, O Holy Spirit, with Your sanctifying flame.
Come, Lord Jesus, rule and reign.
Dwell in our heart.
Make it Your own, forever changed by Your name.
Here is the key, the deed, the title to this place.
Dwell in our heart, O God of grace.
