The Peace of God Be Upon Us
The peace of God be upon us now—
Not as the world gives, fragile, brief, and thin,
A temporary truce amidst the noise and din,
But as the settled calm of Christ’s own breath,
A fortress in the soul that silences the threat of death.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
Let it descend like evening dew, a quiet, gentle balm,
To still the inner tempest and instill a holy calm.
Let it stand as sentinel where worry seeks to breach,
A garrison of grace no anxious thought can reach.
This is the peace He left with us, His own, His last bequest,
The legacy of Calvary, where striving finds its rest.
It is the binding of the broken, the mending of the seam,
The quiet at the center of the wildest, raging dream.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
So let it fall—on troubled minds, on weary, burdened souls,
On fractured homes and broken plans,on spaces grief controls.
The peace of God be in this place,in every word and deed,
A living, flowing river meeting every human need.
We receive it not by circumstance, but by a steadfast trust,
Keeping mind and heart on Him who is forever just.
The peace of God be upon us,a covering, a crown,
Until in perfect peace with Him,our every hope lays down.
Amen.

Reflections on His Peace
The peace of God is a profound spiritual reality that operates on two levels—as a gift we receive and a state we cultivate.
· A Supernatural Guard: The promise in Philippians 4:7 describes God's peace as a divine sentinel that "will guard your hearts and your minds." It actively protects our inner being from being overrun by anxiety, fear, or confusion when we present our requests to God with thanksgiving.
· A Distinctive Quality: Jesus specifically contrasts His peace with the world's peace (John 14:27). The world's peace depends on favorable, external conditions. Christ's peace is independent of circumstances—it is the deep, settled assurance of His presence, sovereignty, and love, even in the storm.
· The Pathway to Peace: Isaiah 26:3 reveals the key: "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." This peace is nurtured by a conscious, disciplined focus on God's trustworthy character and promises.
This peace is not the absence of trouble, but the profound presence of God in the midst of it. It is your inheritance and your shelter.
