No point to own the whole world, but lose God in the process.

"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?"

To gain the world—to accumulate its wealth, achieve its honors, possess its pleasures, conquer its kingdoms—and yet lose God is the most tragic arithmetic ever calculated.

For what is the world compared to the soul?

What are possessions compared to the Possessor?

What is time compared to eternity?

What is the applause of men compared to the "Well done" of God?

A Prayer of Reorientation

Lord God, my Greatest Treasure,

The world spreads its glittering wares before me daily—

promising satisfaction, demanding my devotion,

whispering that more will finally be enough.

But I have tasted and seen:

You are good.

You are better.

You are everything.

Forgive me for the times I have chased shadows

while the Substance stood before me.

Forgive me for clutching at dust

while Your hand reached out to hold me.

Today I reorient my heart:

I would rather be poor with You than rich without You.

I would rather be unknown to the world and known by You

than celebrated by millions and forgotten by heaven.

Keep me from the slow drift

that trades eternity for trinkets.

Anchor my soul in the only treasure that lasts—

You.
