God comes for sinners like you and me.

God Comes for Sinners Like You and Me

A Reflection on Matthew 9:13, Luke 5:32, and Romans 5:8

God comes for sinners like you and me—not the righteous, not the whole,

But the broken, the wounded, the sin‑sick soul.

He does not wait for us to clean our hands,

To make ourselves worthy of His commands.

“I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Matthew 9:13)

He comes to the liar, the cheat, the thief,

To the one who has fallen beyond belief.

To the addict, the doubter, the one full of shame,

To the person who cannot even whisper His name.

He comes—not with a whip, not with a rod,

But with the open arms of a loving God.

He comes to the tax collector, the Pharisee too,

For all have sinned; there is no one who is true.

“I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” (Luke 5:32)

He sat with the outcasts, He touched the untouchable skin.

He welcomed the prodigal back home again.

He looked at Peter, who denied Him three times,

And still forgave him, healing his deepest crimes.

For God demonstrates His own love—this is the core:

While we were still sinners, Christ died for the poor,

The rich, the powerful, the weak, the small.

He died for sinners—He died for all.

But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

So come as you are—with your sin, with your fear,

With your guilt, with your doubt, with your silent tear.

God comes for sinners. He does not turn away.

He cleanses, He heals, He brightens the day.

For you and me—the worst, the least,

The ones who have failed at the wedding feast.

He calls us still, He bids us come.

God comes for sinners—and we are welcome home.

Amen.
