Holy Spirit, All I Want Is You
A Reflection on John 16:13, Romans 8:26, and Psalm 73:25
Holy Spirit, all I want is You—not the gifts You bring,
Not the power, not the wonders, not the songs the angels sing.
I want the Giver, not the giving; the Friend, not just the grace;
The sweet communion of Your presence, the beholding of Your face.
“He will glorify Me, for He will take what is Mine and declare it to you.” (John 16:13)
I have tasted lesser treasures—the fleeting, hollow thrill,
The ecstasy of moments that the morning cannot still.
But You, O Holy Spirit, are the fountain that never runs dry.
You are the water of life, the comfort when I cry.
Not for tongues of fire, not for prophecy or sign,
But for the quiet, steady leading that makes Your will mine.
I want to know Your whisper in the chaos and the calm,
To rest beneath Your shadow, to receive Your healing balm.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. (Romans 8:26)
So I lay aside my wish list, my demands for what I lack.
I open wide my empty hands, and I will not take back
The only thing that matters: You Yourself, O Holy Dove.
All I want is You—my Teacher, my Comforter, my Love.
Whom have I in heaven but You? And on this earth I find
No other treasure, no desire, no yearning of the mind
That compares to knowing You, to walking in Your way.
Holy Spirit, all I want is You—take all else away.
Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. (Psalm 73:25)
Amen.
