God comes for the meek and poor in spirits.

God Comes for the Meek and Poor in Spirit

A Reflection on Matthew 5:3, Isaiah 61:1, and James 4:6

God comes for the meek and poor in spirit—not the proud, not the strong,

But the broken, the humble, those who know they don't belong.

He does not seek the self‑sufficient, those who need no aid.

He bends to lift the lowly, the ones who are afraid.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)

The meek—not weak, but those who bow

Beneath the mighty hand of God, and make this vow:

“Not my will, but Yours be done.” They do not fight,

For they have learned that God is their refuge, their strength, their light.

The poor in spirit—those who know their need,

Who come with empty hands, who plant no selfish seed.

They do not boast of righteousness, for they have none.

They simply trust the mercy of the Father and the Son.

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor.” (Isaiah 61:1)

God comes to them—not as a distant judge,

But as a Father running, as a love that will not budge.

He lifts them from the dust, He seats them with the King.

He gives them beauty for ashes, and makes their spirits sing.

So let us boast in nothing but the cross of Christ.

Let us come as little children, sacrificed.

For God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

The meek and poor in spirit will never, ever stumble.

“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (James 4:6)

Blessed are the poor in spirit—theirs the kingdom now and forever.

God comes for them, and in His love, they will not wither.

Amen.
