May Your Light Shine in My Life
A Reflection on Matthew 5:16, John 8:12, and 2 Corinthians 4:6
May Your light shine in my life—not my own flickering flame,
But the radiance of Your presence, the glory of Your name.
For I am nothing but a lantern, fragile, small, and dim,
But when You shine within me, the darkness cannot win.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
May Your light shine in my mind—dispel the lies, the anxious thought.
Where confusion reigned, let truth be brought.
Let every doubt and fear take flight
Before the dawning of Your holy light.
May Your light shine in my heart—warm the cold, the broken place.
Let the radiance of Your love erase
The shadows of my secret shame,
And burn away the dross that clings to my name.
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:6)
May Your light shine through my words and deeds, that others may see
Not me, but the Savior who has set me free.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden;
Let my life be a witness, Your name forever bidden.
So I receive Your light—not to hoard, but to reflect.
Let every corner of my being be perfectly correct
To the purpose You designed: to shine, to point to You.
May Your light shine in my life—make me faithful, make me true.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
Amen.
