The Blessing Way
Not merely gold, nor harvest’s yield,
Nor comfort in a guarded field—
But deeper streams,a higher good,
As promised since the ancient wood.
"I will bless you,"the Father said,
With living Bread, with daily Bread.
The blessing falls on souls who see
Their own deep poverty in Thee—
The mourners’comfort, mercy’s gain,
The pure in heart who see Thy face.
"Blessed are they,"the mountains heard,
Who trust the fullness of the Word.
It comes, a table in the wild,
The Spirit’s whisper to a child,
A peace that guards the anxious mind,
A seeking heart that sure shall find.
"The Lord will bless His peace,"they sing,
To those who on His goodness cling.
It clothes you in a robe of right,
It turns your darkness into light,
It walks beside through shadowed vale,
When every other comfort fails.
"I will bless you going out,"He vows,
And bless you in your coming home.
It flows through wounds, through willing hands
That sow in tears on broken lands.
It grows in giving, thrives in trust,
And raises treasure from the dust.
"Give, and it will be given,"poured,
Good measure, pressed and running o’er.
And when the journey finds its end,
This blessing,like a faithful friend,
Will open wide the gates of grace
And show you, face to radiant face,
The Source of every good enjoyed—
"Well done, good servant,"overjoyed.
So count the blessings, seen and hid—
The daily mercies,all He did
And does and will do,without end,
On whom His covenant descends.
"Every good gift,"from heaven above,
Is born of His eternal love.
