Amen. That is the paradox of the Kingdom—the upside-down economy of God where the last are first, the least are greatest, and the final victory comes through surrender. Here is a poem on finishing well in the eyes of heaven.
---
Finish Last, Finish Best
The world says, “Finish first!” —
Break the tape, be first across the line.
Grab the glory, quench the thirst,
Make the fleeting moment thine.
But heaven whispers, “Finish last,”
The final place, the servant’s part.
Let go the race run hard and fast,
And tend instead the humble heart.
“So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”(Matthew 20:16)
Finish last in selfish pride,
In need to win, in love of fame.
Finish best at Jesus’ side,
Clothed in mercy, bearing His name.
“But many who are first will be last, and the last first.” (Mark 10:31)
For He who made the stars and seas,
Who spoke the world from dark to morn,
Finished last upon the trees—
The greatest King to ever wear a thorn.
And in that “last,” He finished best—
The work complete, the vict’ry won.
So let me in His footsteps rest,
And when my earthly race is run,
Let me finish last in all that’s vain,
And best in love, through loss or pain.
To hear “Well done,” and enter rest—
To finish last, and finish best.
Amen.
