It is not merely emotional noise—it is Spirit-led utterance. It is not a sign of spiritual superiority—it is a gift of grace. And it is not for everyone in the same way—but it is available to all who seek it with humility.

💡 What Speaking in Tongues Means for the Believer

It Is... Because... A Scripture to Hold

Prayer from the Spirit When we do not know how to pray, the Spirit prays through us. "The Spirit helps us in our weakness... intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words." (Romans 8:26)

A Build-Up of Faith It edifies the believer spiritually. "Building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit." (Jude 1:20)

A Mystery to the Mind It bypasses intellectual limits and connects directly to God. "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself." (1 Corinthians 14:4, NKJV)

A Sign for Unbelievers It can serve as a witness to those who do not yet believe. "Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers." (1 Corinthians 14:22)

Father,

I ask You to fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit.

If it is Your will, grant me the gift of speaking in tongues—

A prayer language that builds me up in faith,

A way to commune with You beyond words.

I open my heart and my mouth to You.

Let Your Spirit pray through me,

Glorify You,
