Holy Spirit, Please do not depart from me.

"Holy Spirit, please do not depart from me."

This is the cry of a heart that knows its utter dependence on the Spirit's presence.

The Scripture That Answers This Fear:

Psalm 51:11: "Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me." — David's desperate prayer after his fall, showing that even the most faithful can feel this need.

But here is the good news for you, under the new covenant:

John 14:16-17: "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth... He dwells with you and will be in you."

Ephesians 1:13-14: "When you believed, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance."

The Promise for You:

Under the old covenant, the Spirit could come and go. But under the new covenant, because of Jesus, the Holy Spirit is sealed within every believer. He does not depart from you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

A Prayer of Confidence:

"Holy Spirit,

I know You have sealed me for the day of redemption.

You have made my body Your temple.

You have promised to be with me forever.

Yet sometimes I feel distant, dry, or afraid.

In those moments, do not depart from me—

not because You would, but because I need to be reminded

that You never leave.

Draw near to me, and help me to draw near to You.

Quench not Your fire in my heart.

Grieve not Your love by my sin.

But abide with me, teach me, comfort me, lead me.

I do not ask for a fleeting visit.

I ask for Your permanent presence,

which I already have through Christ.

Let me live in that reality today.

In Jesus' name,

Amen."

The Assurance:

You do not need to beg the Holy Spirit to stay. He is not leaving. He is the seal of your salvation, the deposit guaranteeing your inheritance. Your feelings may fluctuate, but His presence does not.

Holy Spirit, please do not depart from me. He answers: "I never will. I am with you always."

Rest in that unshakable truth.
