You Are the Beginning
A Reflection on Colossians 1:18 and Revelation 21:6
You are the beginning—not a footnote, not an add-on,
Not a starting line that fades before the race is run.
Before the world was breathed into existence, before the stars were hung,
You were the Word, the Source, the Song, the uncreated One.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” (Revelation 21:6)
In the beginning, God—and then, creation bloomed.
You spoke the light, the land, the sea, the living things assumed.
You formed the dust and breathed into it life,
And crowned Your work with man and woman, husband, wife.
You are the beginning of every hope I hold,
The first chapter of the story that my life unfolds.
Without You, I am chaos, void, and dark;
With You, I find my purpose, my compass, my ark.
He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. (Colossians 1:18)
So I return to You—not to a doctrine, not to a creed,
But to the One who planted in my heart the seed
Of faith, of love, of calling, of design.
You are the beginning—and You will be the finish line.
In You, I start each morning; in You, I end each day.
You are the first word I whisper, the last word that I pray.
You are the beginning—and because You are, I am.
My rock, my root, my rising, my great I AM.
Amen.
