What a Beautiful Name It Is
A Reflection on Philippians 2:9-11 and Song of Solomon 1:3
What a beautiful name it is—the name of Jesus Christ,
The name that conquered death and hell, the name that gives us life.
No other name in heaven or earth can ever stand beside,
For in this name the fullness of the Godhead chose to hide.
Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name. (Philippians 2:9)
Beautiful—not in letters carved by human hand,
But in the scars that heal, the love that makes us stand.
It is the name that angels whisper, that demons fear to speak,
The name that calms the raging storm and strengthens all the weak.
The name of Jesus—honey on the lips of the redeemed,
The fragrance of forgiveness, the hope that we have dreamed.
When sorrow weighs and darkness falls, it is the morning star,
The name that draws the wounded and the broken from afar.
Your name is perfume poured out; no wonder the young women love you! (Song of Solomon 1:3)
What a beautiful name—not for its sound alone,
But for the cross it carries, for the victory it has known.
It speaks of grace unmeasured, of mercy without end,
Of a Savior who is also a brother and a friend.
So I will lift this name in worship, in prayer, in daily strife.
The most beautiful name I know—the name that gives me life.
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus—let every heart proclaim:
There is no other name so beautiful. No other name the same.
“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” (Philippians 2:10)
Amen.
