If You Pray to the Father in My Name, He Will Grant It
A Reflection on John 14:13-14 and John 16:23-24
“If you pray to Our Father in My name, He will grant it.”
Not a blank check written on a whim,
But a promise wrapped in relationship with Him.
Not a magic formula to bend the will of God,
But a child’s confidence in the path the Savior trod.
“And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it.” (John 14:13-14)
In My name—not as a charm or a key,
But as one who trusts that Jesus prays for me.
It is to pray aligned with His character and will,
To ask for what the Father loves, and to be still.
The Father will grant it—not every wish of the flesh,
But every prayer that in His purpose finds its mesh.
Sometimes the answer is “yes,” sometimes “wait,” sometimes “no,”
But always what is best for the souls He loves, to help them grow.
“In that day you will ask nothing of Me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He will give it to you.” (John 16:23)
So I come to the Father in the name of Jesus Christ,
Not demanding, but believing, for He has sacrificed
His very life to open heaven’s door.
When I pray in His name, I am not poor.
The Father hears because He sees His Son,
And for the sake of Jesus, the answer is begun.
Not by my worth, but by the worth of the Lamb,
I lift my prayers, and I know that I am
Heard, loved, answered in the perfect way.
So let me pray in Jesus’ name—each night and day.
And trust that the Father, for His glory and my good,
Will grant what I ask, as a Father should.
Amen.
