Everlasting love.

 Everlasting Love

A Reflection on Jeremiah 31:3, Psalm 136:1-2, and Romans 8:38-39

Everlasting love—not a passing, fleeting flame,

But a fire that burned before the world had a name.

It is not a love that waits for us to be good or right,

But a love that sought us in the darkest night.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

Everlasting—stretching back to before time’s first breath,

Reaching forward beyond the edge of death.

No beginning and no end, no fading and no cease,

It is the very heart of God, our everlasting peace.

This love does not depend on my performance or my worth.

It flowed from the Father’s heart before my mother gave me birth.

When I was still a sinner, still running from His face,

His love pursued me, caught me, and wrapped me in His grace.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever. (Psalm 136:1)

Nothing can separate us from this love so true—

Not death, not life, not angels, not the powers that pursue.

Not height nor depth, not anything in all creation,

Can sever me from this love, my eternal foundation.

So I rest in everlasting love—not earned, but freely given.

My home, my hope, my present, my heaven.

Everlasting love—my song, my story, my plea,

The truest thing about me, and it sets me free.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life... nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

Amen.
