River of Mercy
A Reflection on Psalm 36:5-6, Lamentations 3:22-23, and Micah 7:18-19
River of mercy—flowing from the heart of God,
A stream that never runs dry, a current strong and broad.
It carries no condemnation, no shame, no guilt, no blame,
Only the cleansing, healing power of the Redeemer’s name.
Your mercy, O Lord, extends to the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. (Psalm 36:5)
Mercy—not getting what I deserve,
A pardon that my striving could never earn or serve.
It meets me in my failure, it greets me at my fall,
And lifts me from the muddy pit, restoring my all.
River—not a stagnant pool, not a trickle thin,
But a rushing, living tide that washes away my sin.
It flows from Calvary’s mountain, from the Savior’s wounded side,
Where justice and compassion met, and love was crucified.
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
So I plunge into this river, let it cover me.
Let it wash away the stain of every secret history.
I will not be afraid of the depth or the swiftness of the flow,
For the River of Mercy is where the forgiven learn to grow.
Who is a God like You, who pardons sin and forgives transgression? You will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:18-19)
River of mercy—I drink from You today.
Wash me, cleanse me, carry me, Lord, I pray.
Amen.
