Blessed Are the Children of God
A Reflection on John 1:12, 1 John 3:1, and Romans 8:16-17
Blessed are the children of God—not by blood or fleshly birth,
But by the Spirit’s adoption, by the new creation’s worth.
We were orphans, lost and wandering, strangers to the Father’s love,
But He called us sons and daughters, heirs with Christ from above.
Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12)
Blessed—with forgiveness for every sin and stain.
Blessed—with a Father who will not leave us in our pain.
Blessed—with an inheritance that never fades or rusts.
Blessed—with the Spirit’s presence, in whom our spirit trusts.
No longer slaves to fear, no longer cowering in dread.
We cry, “Abba, Father,” as the Spirit softly said.
We are joint heirs with Jesus, sharing in His suffering and His glory.
This is not a fairytale; this is the gospel story.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)
Blessed are the children of God—for the world may not know us,
But heaven knows our name; the Father will not disown us.
We bear His image, carry His heart, shine His light in the dark.
Blessed, forever blessed, from the moment we embark.
So let us live as children—not with fear, but with boldness and grace.
Let us run to the Father, and rest in His embrace.
For blessed are we, not by merit, but by grace alone—
Blessed are the children of God, through faith in Christ the Son.
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co‑heirs with Christ. (Romans 8:16-17)
Amen.
