The House That the Lord Builds
A Reflection on Psalm 127:1
The house that the Lord builds—not a structure made of stone,
But a dwelling place of grace, a home where love is known.
If He does not raise the walls, if He does not lay the beam,
Then every human effort is a frail and fading dream.
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. (Psalm 127:1)
The house of family—the walls of marriage, the roof of care,
Unless the Lord is at the center, what hope will linger there?
For love that strives without His grace soon crumbles into dust.
But when He builds, the bonds are strong, the hearts are full of trust.
The house of faith—the inner sanctuary of the soul,
Where peace and purpose dwell, where broken parts are made whole.
If we construct it with our hands, with pride and human plan,
It will not stand against the storms, nor shelter any man.
Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. (Psalm 127:1)
So I entrust my life to You, the Master Architect.
Build in me a house of praise, of love, of true respect.
Not for my glory, not for show, but that Your name be great.
The house that the Lord builds—it will never abdicate.
When You are the foundation, when Your word is the design,
The walls will stand, the roof will hold, the light will shine.
No storm can tear it down, no enemy can breach,
For the house that the Lord builds is built beyond all reach.
Amen.
