Protect me from evil

This is the very prayer Jesus taught us to pray—a plea for deliverance from the evil one and all his schemes. It is a prayer for spiritual, physical, and moral protection.

Here is a prayer and poem for that divine safeguarding.

From the Evil One

The evil lurks, it prowls, it waits, It whispers at the narrow gates. It seeks to kill,to steal, to lie, To dim the light within my eye.

But I am Yours, and You are strong, To You,my God, my soul belongs. You are my shield,my mighty tower, My source of overcoming power.

Protect me from evil.

Deliver me from the evil one’s hand, From his destructive,dark command. From his temptations,subtle, deep, That lure Your wandering sheep.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:13)

Guard my heart from his deceit, From bitter and accusing thoughts. Guard my mind from his defeat, The battles he has often fought.

Put a hedge of thorns around my way, So I will never from You stray. Let no evil plan succeed, Upon my life,upon my seed.

Cover me with the blood of Christ, The perfect,all-sufficient price. Let it be a sign,a seal, That proves Your promise,strong and real.

I put on the armor You supply, To stand against the arrows that fly. The belt of truth,the shield of faith, To fight the fight until my death.

Protect me from evil, Lord, I pray. Not just for this,but every day. Hold me secure within Your hand, ’Til in Your promised land I stand.
