Of course. This cry, "Abba, Father," is one of the most intimate and powerful prayers in all of Scripture. It is the cry of a child, trusting and desperate, running to a loving Parent. It is the Spirit Himself within us, calling out to God.
Here is a prayer and poem for that deep, heartfelt cry.
---
The Cry of the Child
Not to a distant, watching king, But to my Father,I now bring The ache that has no other word, The sound my spirit long has heard.
Abba, Father… The name a trusting child would speak, When comfort’s all they need and seek. It is the cry of helpless trust, When hope is crumbling into dust.
I cry for You. Not just for things, But for the peace Your presence brings. For the assurance that You’re near, To hold me close and calm my fear.
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15)
I cry for You with groans too deep, When promises seem hard to keep. When answers tarry, and the night Seems to have swallowed up the light.
I cry for You, my one true home, When through this wilderness I roam. I cry for Your approving nod, My Father, and my loving God.
You do not turn away or sigh, You hear the smallest, weakest cry. You bend Your ear,You know my voice, You make my trembling heart rejoice.
You gather up my every tear, You hold me close and draw me near. You rock me in Your strong embrace, And fill me with sufficient grace.
Abba, Father, I cry for You. And in the crying,I am new. For in the asking,I receive The comfort only You can give.
You are my Father. I am Your child. On this truth,in the wildest storm, I’ll rest. Held in Your arms, upon Your breast.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
