Your way is greater than my way.

Your Way Is Greater Than My Way

A Reflection on Isaiah 55:8-9

Your way is greater than my way—higher than my thoughts can reach,

Deeper than my understanding, wiser than the words I preach.

I see the small and narrow path that stretches out before me,

But You see the whole horizon, the end from the beginning, the story.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

My way—built on what I see, on what I think is best,

On the map I draw with my own hand, seeking my own rest.

But Your way carves through mountains, walks on water, parts the sea,

Your way is the path of the Shepherd who leads and sets me free.

When Your way seems confusing, when it winds where I would not,

I will trust that You are working out a far more glorious plot.

When my plans unravel, when my dreams fall to the ground,

Your way is still the way of love, and in it I am found.

Your way is greater—not in distance, but in depth,

Not in ease, but in the purpose that my faith will help me accept.

It takes me through the valley, but it leads me to the peak.

It teaches me in silence what my loudest words could never speak.

So I surrender my small map, my carefully crafted plan.

I place my hand in Yours, O God, and trust the Great I Am.

Your way is better, higher, wiser—it will never lead me wrong.

I will follow, I will trust, and in Your way, I will be strong.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Your way is greater than my way. Let it be so.

I release my need to know, my need to control, my need to go

Where I think is best. Lead me, Lord, in Your eternal way.

Your way is love, Your way is life, Your way is truth—I will obey.

Amen.
