We cry ABBA Father.

 We Cry Abba Father

A Reflection on Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:6-7, and 1 John 3:1

We cry Abba Father—not a whisper, not a sigh,

But the bold and confident cry of a child who knows the Most High.

No longer slaves to fear, no longer bound by dread,

We lift our voices and cry out, "Father," as the Spirit has said.

For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15)

Abba—the intimate name of a child to a Father,

Not a distant, formal title, but the love of the One who gathers

His children close to His heart, who hears their every cry,

Who bends to lift the fallen and wipe the tears from every eye.

Father—not a judge who waits to strike,

But the Shepherd who leads us, the love we cannot lose.

He runs to meet the prodigal, He lifts the fallen one.

His mercy never fails us; His will is always done.

Because you are His sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child. (Galatians 4:6-7)

We cry Abba Father—in the valley and the peak,

In the silence and the suffering, in the victory and the weak.

When the world is loud and lonely, when we feel we don't belong,

This cry reminds us that we are His, and we are strong.

Not orphans, not forgotten, not abandoned or alone.

We are children of the living God, adopted as His own.

The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave

Now lives within us and calls us, "Child, you are saved."

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)

So we cry Abba Father—today, tomorrow, always.

Our hearts are Yours, our lives are Yours, for all our days.

In joy, in sorrow, in life, in death,

We cry, "Abba Father," with every breath.

Amen.
