Blessed Are Those Who Believe
A Reflection on John 20:29, 1 Peter 1:8-9, and Hebrews 11:6
Blessed are those who believe—not by sight, but by faith,
Who trust in the unseen, who know the Shepherd's voice and obey.
They have not seen with their eyes, yet they love Him still,
Their hearts are filled with a joy that the world cannot kill.
“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)
Blessed—not by circumstances or by worldly gain,
But by the deep, abiding peace that comes from knowing His name.
They walk by faith, not by sight,
They live in the shadow of His light.
They believe—even when the path is dark and long,
Even when they cannot hear the morning song.
They trust in the One who holds the future and the past,
And in His love, they are anchored fast.
Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy. (1 Peter 1:8)
Blessed are those who believe—who have not seen the risen Lord,
Yet still they have received His holy Word.
They walk in the steps of Abraham, who believed against all hope,
They lean on the grace that helps them cope.
For faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen.
It is the anchor of the soul, the way to make the spirit clean.
Without faith, it is impossible to please God,
But with faith, we walk the path the saints have trod.
Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)
So blessed are you—if you believe in the Son,
If you trust in His finished work, if you know that the victory is won.
You are blessed with forgiveness, with hope, with eternal life,
You are blessed with peace in the midst of all strife.
Blessed are those who believe—let the whole earth know.
Their names are written in the Book of Life, and they will never, ever let go.
For they have found the treasure hidden in the field,
And in His love, they are forever sealed.
Amen.
