Heal the Brokenhearted.

 Heal the Brokenhearted

A Reflection on Psalm 147:3, Isaiah 61:1, and Luke 4:18

Heal the brokenhearted, Lord—the ones who weep in silence,

Who carry wounds no one can see, who hide their pain with violence

Of smiles and busyness, of keeping up appearances.

You see the tears that fall at night, You hear the deepest pleas.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3)

Brokenhearted—shattered by loss, by betrayal, by grief,

By dreams that never came to be, by hope that found no relief.

The heart that loved and lost so much, the trust that was betrayed,

The joy that turned to sorrow, the plans that went arrayed.

But You, O Lord, are near to the broken and the crushed.

You do not turn away from those whose spirits are rushed

With pain and confusion, with questions without end.

You are the God who bends to heal, the Mender and the Friend.

“He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives.” (Isaiah 61:1)

You heal—not by erasing the past, but by walking through it,

By holding us in our darkest hour and helping us make sense of it.

You take the shattered pieces and you begin to rebuild,

Not with cold and distant hands, but with love that is fulfilled.

You give a crown of beauty for ashes of despair,

The oil of joy for mourning, a garment of praise to wear.

You replace the spirit of heaviness with a spirit of praise,

And You turn our mourning into dancing, all our remaining days.

“He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted... to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning.” (Isaiah 61:1, 3)

So bring Your healing, Lord—to every broken heart,

To every soul that's torn apart.

Mend the wounds that no one sees,

Calm the storms, and bring the peace.

Heal the brokenhearted—this is Your promise, this is Your call.

You are the God who sees, who knows, who restores all.

For those who weep, You bring a song;

For those who stumble, You make them strong.

We trust You, Healer God. You are faithful and true.

You heal the brokenhearted and make all things new.

Amen.
