Protect Us from Evil
Protect us from evil—this is our cry,
Lifted to the Father, the One who reigns on high.
Not from the trials that shape our faith,
Not from the challenges that test our wavering ways,
But from the evil one who prowls and seeks
To steal, to kill, to destroy the weak.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:13)
Protect us from evil—from the snare of the enemy's lies,
From the subtle whispers that deceive our eyes.
From the traps laid hidden along our path,
From the sudden storms of sudden wrath.
Cover us, shield us, hide us away
In the shadow of Your wings, we pray.
He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. (Psalm 91:4)
Protect us from evil in the light of day,
When the world is busy and we're led astray
By the glitter of things that will not last,
By the pull of pleasures that hold us fast.
Guard our eyes, guard our hearts,
From the enemy's seductive arts.
Protect us from evil in the dark of night,
When fears take flight and shadows bite.
When sleep evades and thoughts conspire,
When the enemy fans the flames of fire,
Be our peace, be our rest,
Hold us close against Your breast.
I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)
Protect us from evil in our going out,
In every whisper of fear and doubt.
In every decision, every choice,
Let us be tuned to Your still, small voice.
Go before us, stand behind,
Hedge us in with love so kind.
Protect us from evil—not just without,
But from the evil that lurks within, no doubt.
From our own hearts' deceit and pride,
From the selfishness we try to hide.
Cleanse us, purify us, make us whole,
Heal the brokenness within our soul.
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
Protect those we love, the ones held dear,
When they are near, when they are far from here.
Cover our children, our families, our friends,
Be their beginning and their end.
Send Your angels to guard their way,
Keep them safe through every day.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them. (Psalm 34:7)
Protect us from evil—this is our plea,
Not just for ourselves, but for all humanity.
For the persecuted, the oppressed, the bound,
For the lost, the lonely, the unsound.
Let Your justice roll like a mighty stream,
Let Your light break through the darkest dream.
And when the final battle comes, when the war is done,
When the victory is claimed and the victory is won,
May we stand before Your throne, clothed in white,
Safe in the arms of love and light.
For You have promised, and You are true:
The evil one will not prevail—he cannot touch those found in You.
We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. (1 John 5:18)
So protect us, Father, now and always.
Cover us with Your mercy through all our days.
In the name of Jesus, our strong defense,
We rest in Your faithful providence.
Amen.
