Amazing Grace

Here is a poem that weaves together the themes of "Amazing Grace" with specific scriptures that inspired its verses.

The Cord of Heaven

The weight of sin, a heavy stone,

Had sunk my soul in woe (Romans 3:23).

My wandering feet, the path unknown,

Where deadly shadows grow (Romans 6:23).

But then a cord of heaven's light

Was lowered from the throne (Ephesians 2:8).

It found me in my darkest night

And claimed me for its own.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And fear, my need revealed (Proverbs 9:10).

Then grace removed that heavy fear,

And with its peace, was sealed (Romans 5:1).

That grace, a gift, not earned or bought,

Through faith, I took its hand (Ephesians 2:9).

For by His sacrifice, I'm brought

To walk the promised land (John 3:16).

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,

I have already come (John 16:33).

For grace that bore my deepest cares

Is grace that leads me home (Psalm 23:6).

The Lord has promised good to me,

His word my hope secures (Hebrews 10:23).

He will my shield and portion be

As long as life endures (Psalm 28:7).

And when this flesh and heart shall fail,

And mortal life shall cease (2 Corinthians 4:16),

I shall possess, within the veil,

A life of joy and peace (1 Peter 1:3-4).

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,

The sun, forbear to shine (2 Peter 3:10).

But God, who called me here below,

Will be forever mine (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
