In the Presence of God
In the presence of God—there is fullness of joy.
Not a fleeting happiness that circumstances destroy,
But a deep, abiding gladness that springs from knowing Him,
A river of delight that never runs dim.
You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)
In the presence of God—fear melts away.
The shadows that haunted, the terrors that held sway,
Dissolve like morning mist before the rising sun,
For where the Lord is, freedom has come.
In the presence of God—I am fully known.
Every thought, every motive, every seed I have sown.
Yet in that knowing, I am not condemned,
But loved and accepted, my spirit mended.
In the presence of God—healing flows down.
To the broken in body, to the shattered in crown.
To the weary who've carried their burdens too long,
To the silent who've suffered without a song.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3)
In the presence of God—wisdom is found.
Not the wisdom of ages that the world would crown,
But the wisdom that knows the beginning from the end,
The counsel of the Maker, the heart of the Friend.
In the presence of God—I am made whole.
Body and spirit, mind and soul.
The fragmented pieces, the scattered parts,
Are gathered and knit by His healing arts.
In the presence of God—time stands still.
The rush and the hurry, the press of the will,
Give way to a quiet, a sacred space,
Where I rest in the warmth of His holy face.
Be still, and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10)
In the presence of God—I find my rest.
Not a passive slumber, but a peace that is blessed.
The rest of a child in a parent's strong arms,
The rest that no circumstance threatens or harms.
In the presence of God—I am transformed.
Not by my striving, not by performance performed.
But by beholding His glory, by gazing on grace,
I am changed from one degree to another in this holy place.
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
In the presence of God—I am at home.
No longer a wanderer, no longer to roam.
I have found my place, I have found my rest,
In the shelter of His wings, forever blessed.
Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. (Psalm 90:1)
So I seek Your presence, not just for a day,
Not just in worship, not just when I pray,
But as the atmosphere I breathe and live,
The constant reality from which I receive.
In the presence of God—this is where I belong.
This is my refuge, my strength, my song.
In the presence of God—now and forever,
Nothing can separate us; nothing can sever.
Amen.
