Build our treasure in Heaven.

This teaching of Jesus shifts our entire perspective on wealth, value, and purpose from the temporary to the eternal. It is an invitation to invest in what truly lasts.

Here is a poem and reflection on building treasures in heaven.

Building Your Treasure in Heaven

Why build a house on shifting sand,

And store up wealth with trembling hand?

Why spend your breath on fading glory,

And chase a temporary story?

The moth will come, the rust will bite,

The thief will steal in dead of night.

The markets rise,the markets fall,

But one true treasure stands through all.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” (Matthew 6:19-20)

So what is this eternal store,

That lasts forever,evermore?

It is not gold, nor pearl, nor gem,

But lives transformed,a diadem.

It is the cup of water given,

The act of love, from earth to heaven.

It is the prayer in secret made,

The choice to live unselfish aid.

It is the worship, pure and true,

The faithful thing you choose to do.

It is the stand you take for right,

When cloaked in darkness, you are light.

“Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail…” (Luke 12:33)

It is the word of hope you speak,

To strengthen tired and make the weak.

It is the sinner brought to grace,

To see the wonder of God's face.

So build your treasure day by day,

In God's own,selfless, loving way.

Invest your time, your wealth, your art,

In what will never,ever part.

For where your treasure is, you'll find,

The true direction of your mind.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”(Matthew 6:21)

So let your heart be anchored there,

Above this world's consuming care.

In heaven's vault,secure and bright,

Where all is love, and all is light.

How to Build Treasure in Heaven:

Jesus teaches that we build eternal treasure not by accumulating for ourselves, but by giving of ourselves for God's purposes. It is a transfer of assets from earth to heaven.

1. Invest in People: The only thing we can take from earth to heaven is people. Sharing the gospel, discipling others, and showing Christ's love is an eternal investment.

2. Live Generously: Giving to the poor, supporting the work of the ministry, and meeting the needs of others is like making a direct deposit into your heavenly account (Matthew 19:21, Proverbs 19:17).

3. Serve Faithfully: Every act of service done "as for the Lord" has an eternal reward (Colossians 3:23-24). From changing a diaper to leading a nation, when done for God's glory, it has eternal significance.

4. Endure Faithfully: Remaining faithful to God through trials and persecution stores up "a rich reward" in heaven (Matthew 5:11-12).

5. Love Your Enemies: Doing good to those who hate you is a mark of heavenly citizenship, and your "reward will be great" (Luke 6:35).

A Prayer for Eternal Perspective:

"Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have poured my energy and heart into building a kingdom here on earth that cannot last. Shift my perspective to see life through the lens of eternity.

Teach me to be a wise investor of my time, talents, and resources. Show me how to use what You have given me to build treasure in Your presence. Help me to live generously, love radically, and serve faithfully, not for the applause of people, but for the joy of hearing You say, 'Well done.'

May my heart be so captivated by the glories of heaven that I hold the things of this earth loosely. I want to live for what will last forever.

In Jesus' name, Amen."
