Blessed to Be a Blessing
A Reflection on Genesis 12:2-3 and 1 Peter 3:9
"I will bless you... and you will be a blessing." (Genesis 12:2)
Bless and be blessed—this is the rhythm of the divine,
The holy dance of grace, the unending, sacred line.
You pour out blessing upon me, not for me to hold,
But so that I may be a conduit, a vessel made of gold.
Blessed—not with empty words or hollow praise,
But with the fullness of Your love, the light of Your ways.
Blessed with forgiveness, blessed with peace,
Blessed with hope that will never cease.
Be blessed—not just receiving, but giving back,
Pouring out the love You have given, staying on track
With Your purpose, with Your heart, with Your plan,
Blessing others as I have been blessed, making Your kingdom expand.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. (Romans 12:14)
Bless—not with grudging, hesitant hands,
But with joyful generosity, with open hearts and open hands.
Bless the broken, bless the poor,
Bless the ones who walk through the door.
Be blessed—in the morning and in the night,
In the darkness and in the light.
Be blessed in your going out and coming in,
Be blessed in your victories and in your discipline.
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24-26)
Blessed to be a blessing—this is the call,
The invitation to give our all.
Not hoarding the gifts, not keeping the grace,
But pouring it out in every time and place.
So I receive Your blessing—with open hands and humble heart,
And I ask You, Lord, to help me play my part.
Bless me, Lord—so that I may be a blessing to others,
To my family, my friends, my neighbors, my brothers.
I bless You, Lord, for You are good,
And I will be a blessing, as I know I should.
Blessed and be blessed—this is my song,
My prayer, my life, my whole life long.
Amen.
