Life Is Hard
A Reflection on Psalm 34:18, Matthew 11:28, and 2 Corinthians 4:17
Life is hard—the weight of it can break,
The sleepless nights, the constant ache.
The bills that pile, the dreams that fade,
The promises that were never made.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:18)
Life is hard—when the road is steep and long,
When hope is distant, and you've lost your song.
When the ones you love don't understand,
When you're walking through a barren land.
The tears come freely, the questions rise,
You look to the sky with weary eyes.
"Why is it so hard? Why does it hurt?"
You feel like you're buried in the dirt.
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
But in the struggle, You are near.
You see every pain, You catch every tear.
You walk with me through the fire and flood,
You hold me close, You are my blood.
Life is hard—but You are harder still.
You are the strength that helps me climb the hill.
You are the peace that calms the storm,
The shelter that keeps me safe and warm.
The hard days will pass, the night will end,
The morning will come, the darkness will bend.
For this light and momentary affliction is nothing compared to the eternal weight of glory that awaits.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. (2 Corinthians 4:17)
Life is hard—but God is good.
Even when I don't understand, even when I don't see how I could
Make it through another day, another hour,
He gives me strength, He gives me power.
So I will hold on, I will not let go.
For the One who holds me will never let me go.
Life is hard—but He is harder.
He is the anchor that keeps me from drifting farther.
Amen.
