 Spirit of Truth

A Reflection on John 14:16-17, John 16:13, and 1 John 4:6

Spirit of Truth—not a spirit of confusion or doubt,

But the One who leads us in and out

Of every maze of lies and fear,

The One who makes the pathway clear.

“When He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:13)

Truth—not a concept we can hold,

But a Person, faithful, strong, and bold.

The Truth that sets the captives free,

The Truth that makes us who we are meant to be.

Spirit of Truth—expose the lies,

The hidden things that compromise.

The whispers of the enemy, the doubts that creep,

The fears that rob us of our sleep.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.” (John 14:16-17)

Lead us into all truth—not just a part,

But the whole counsel of the Father's heart.

Help us discern what is right and true,

And give us the courage to follow through.

Spirit of Truth—we welcome You,

To teach us, guide us, make us new.

Burn away deception, shine Your light,

And lead us in the way that is right.

We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. (1 John 4:6)

Spirit of Truth—we need You now,

To show us how to live, to love, to bow.

In a world of noise and shifting sand,

Be the anchor that helps us stand.

So we open our hearts, we open our ears,

We welcome Your truth, we cast out our fears.

Spirit of Truth—abide with us today,

And lead us in the everlasting way.
