Power and Majesty to the King
A Reflection on 1 Chronicles 29:11, Revelation 5:13, and Psalm 145:11-13
Power and majesty to the King—the One who reigns on high,
Whose throne is righteousness, whose kingdom cannot die.
He is robed in splendor, crowned with endless light,
The Lord of lords, the King of kings, the source of all that's right.
Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor. (1 Chronicles 29:11)
Power—the strength that spoke the worlds to birth,
The might that holds the universe, the life that gives us worth.
It is not a tyrant's force, not a ruler's iron rod,
But the power of a Servant King, the power of a loving God.
Majesty—the beauty of His holiness,
The grandeur of His throne, the depth of His faithfulness.
He wears no earthly crown, no jeweled and fading prize,
But the light of endless glory shines from His holy eyes.
"To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!" (Revelation 5:13)
Power and majesty—not just for the ages to come,
But for this moment, this hour, for the victory already won.
In the silence of the morning, in the chaos of the day,
He is King, He is Lord, He is the One who makes a way.
To the King—not a distant, cold, commanding voice,
But the Shepherd who makes my broken heart rejoice.
He rules with love, He reigns with grace, His kingdom is not force,
But righteousness and peace and joy, a gentle, mighty course.
They will speak of the glorious splendor of Your majesty—and I will meditate on Your wonderful works. They will tell of the power of Your awesome works—and I will proclaim Your great deeds. (Psalm 145:5-6)
So I bow before this King—not in fear, but in awe,
For the King who wore a crown of thorns has overcome the law.
He is the King of mercy, the King of endless grace,
The King who welcomes rebels into His embrace.
Power and majesty to the King—my heart, my life, my all.
I will serve Him, love Him, follow Him, whatever may befall.
He is the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the great I AM.
Power and majesty to the King—the spotless, risen Lamb.
Amen.
