The Promise I Have in You
A Reflection on 2 Corinthians 1:20, Hebrews 10:23, and John 14:6
The promise I have in You—not a fragile, fleeting vow,
But an anchor for my soul, a hope that holds me now.
In a world of shifting shadows, of broken oaths and fading trust,
Your promises are bedrock, built on faithfulness and just.
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. (2 Corinthians 1:20)
The promise of forgiveness—every sin erased,
Every failure covered, every stain replaced.
The promise of Your presence—never leaving me alone,
The promise of Your peace that calms my heart and makes it known.
I have a promise of eternal life, a home prepared for me,
A future bright with hope, a destiny I can see.
I have a promise of Your Spirit, the Comforter within,
Who guides me into truth and keeps me free from sin.
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23)
The promise I have in You—not based on my performance,
Not dependent on my feelings or my own endurance.
It is built on Your character, on Your unchanging word,
On the finished work of Jesus, on the victory we have heard.
You are the Promise Keeper—You have never failed,
Not one word has fallen, not one hope derailed.
From Abraham to David, from the prophets to the saints,
Your promises have stood the test, without any complaints.
So I will trust Your promises—for today, for all my years.
For the wiping of my tears, the calming of my fears.
You are not a man that You should lie; You are the faithful King.
The promise I have in You—to You, my heart will cling.
“I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14:6)
I have the promise of Your presence—You will never leave.
I have the promise of Your mercy—I will receive.
I have the promise of Your power—strength for every day.
I have the promise of Your love—that will never fade away.
The promise I have in You—it is my hope, my song,
My certainty, my anchor, my whole life long.
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You,
For every promise is yes and amen, faithful and true.
Amen.
