I Give You My Heart
A Reflection on Proverbs 23:26, Psalm 51:10, and Revelation 3:20
My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways. (Proverbs 23:26)
I give You my heart—not a fragment, not a part,
But the whole of me, the deepest part.
Not the pieces I have polished, not the parts I think are good,
But the messy, broken, tender parts that only You understood.
I give You my heart—the dreams I hold, the fears I hide,
The secret hopes I keep inside.
The joy that overflows, the tears that fall,
The silent prayers, the whispered call.
I give You my heart—not as an offering of perfection,
But as a child seeking direction.
Take it, Lord, and make it new,
Create in me a heart that beats for You.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
My heart—the wellspring of my life,
The source of joy, the seat of strife.
Guard it, Lord, and keep it true,
Let it beat in rhythm with You.
I give You my heart—in the morning when I rise,
In the quiet before the day's demands and cries.
In the noontide, when the battle presses hard,
In the evening, when I lower my guard.
I give You my heart—for better or for worse,
In the blessing and the curse.
In the laughter and the tears,
Through the triumphs and the fears.
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with Me. (Revelation 3:20)
You stand at the door of my heart, knocking, waiting,
Seeking a place to enter, to create, to create.
I open wide the door, I invite You in,
Come, Lord Jesus, dwell within.
Take my heart—my passion, my pride, my pain,
And make it a sanctuary where You will reign.
I give You my heart—today, tomorrow, always,
In Your hands, I will stay.
My heart is Yours. Forever.
Amen.
