Amen. To "wait upon the Lord" is one of the most profound and active postures of faith. It is not passive idleness, but a focused, hopeful, and expectant trust in His character and timing.
Here is a prayerful poem for the season of waiting.
---
I Wait Upon You, Lord
I wait upon You, Lord.
Not in the silence of despair,
Not in the clenching grip of fear,
But in the stillness of a trusting prayer.
I wait upon You, Lord.
I still my soul,I cease my strive,
In this quiet place,I feel alive.
For waiting is the work I do,
My active faith, placed firm in You.
I wait upon You, Lord.
As watchmen wait for morning's light,
Sure of the dawn, after the night.
So I am sure,my help will come,
My heart beats to a different drum.
I wait upon You, Lord.
I trade my strength,so frail and small,
For Yours, which carries through it all.
I mount up with wings,an eagle's flight,
Renewed and lifted by Your might.
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”(Isaiah 40:31)
I wait upon You, Lord.
For plans You have, not I, can make,
A path of peace for my soul's sake.
I wait upon Your word,Your cue,
My hope is secure, for it rests in You.
So here I am. My hands release
My timelines and my need to know.
In this holy,expectant peace,
I will not fret,I will not go.
I wait upon You, Lord.
My Savior,my Hope, my King.
My soul finds rest in everything
You are,and will forever be.
I wait,and I will wait, for Thee.
