Make straight the way of the Lord.

 Amen. This is a powerful, prophetic cry that echoes the mission of John the Baptist and reaches into the heart of God's people today. It is a prayer for preparation, both in our own hearts and in the world around us, for a fresh manifestation of the Lord's presence and power.

"A voice of one calling in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'" — John 1:23 (quoting Isaiah 40:3)

This is not about moving physical mountains, but about preparing a highway for God in the spiritual and moral landscape of our lives and our communities.

What Does It Mean to "Make Straight the Way of the Lord"?

It is an active, intentional process of clearing out the obstacles that hinder God's movement and rule.

In Our Personal Lives:

· Repentance: This is the primary work. It means to "make straight" the crooked paths of our sin, compromise, and selfishness. We identify the areas of our lives that are not aligned with God's will and we turn from them, confessing and receiving His forgiveness.

· Humility: We "level the mountains" of our pride, self-sufficiency, and ego. We acknowledge our desperate need for Him in every area.

· Surrender: We "fill in the valleys" of our fear, doubt, and unbelief. We choose to trust God's promises and character, raising our low perspectives to the height of His truth.

· Purity: We "clear the debris" of distractions, idols, and anything that competes for our affection and loyalty to Christ.

In Our World:

· Pursuing Justice: We make straight the way of the Lord by standing for righteousness, defending the oppressed, and acting with integrity in a crooked world.

· Sharing the Gospel: We prepare the way by proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ, calling others to repentance and faith, so that their own hearts can be prepared for Him.

· Living as Witnesses: Our transformed lives become a "straight path" that points others directly to God.

A Prayer to Make Straight the Way

Lord God, Almighty King,

We echo the cry of the prophets: Prepare the way! Make straight the path!

Come into the wilderness of my own heart and into the chaos of this world.

Be the bulldozer and the architect of my soul.

· Where there is pride, level me with humility.

· Where there is sin and compromise, straighten me with repentance and holiness.

· Where there is unbelief and fear, fill me with faith and courage.

· Where there are distractions and idols, clear them away until my gaze is fixed solely on You.

Make me a voice, however small, that prepares the way for Your coming.

Use my life, my words, and my actions to create a straight path for Your truth, love, and glory to flow into my family, my community, and my world.

I long for nothing to hinder Your movement in and through me.

Come, Lord Jesus, and rule and reign without a rival.

In the mighty name of the One whose way we prepare, Amen.
