John 1

 Amen. John 1 is one of the most profound and majestic chapters in all of Scripture—it introduces us to Jesus as the eternal Word, the Creator of all things, the Light of the world, and the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us. It is the foundation of the gospel and the revelation of who Jesus truly is.

📖 The Scripture (John 1:1-18, ESV)

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known."

"In the beginning was the Word" Jesus is eternal—He existed before creation. "Before the mountains were born... from everlasting to everlasting you are God." (Psalm 90:2)

"All things were made through him" Jesus is the Creator of all things. "For by him all things were created." (Colossians 1:16)

"The Word became flesh and dwelt among us" Jesus came to live among us—fully God and fully man. "He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant." (Philippians 2:7)

"Full of grace and truth" Jesus embodies grace and truth perfectly. "Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." (John 1:17)

"From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace" You receive abundant grace from Him. "From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace." (John 1:16)

🙏 A Prayer of John 1

Father,

I thank You for the Word who became flesh.

I thank You for Jesus—

The eternal Word,

The Creator of all things,

The Light of the world,

The source of all life.

Thank You that He came to dwell among us.

Thank You that He is full of grace and truth.

Thank You that through Him, I can become Your child.

Let His light shine in my darkness.

Let His life fill my emptiness.

Let His grace cover my sin.

Let His truth guide my steps.

I receive Him.

I believe in His name.

I am a child of God.
