God Is My Banner
Jehovah Nissi — The Lord Is My Banner
God is my banner—not a flag of war,
But a standard of love that goes before.
He is the rallying point, the victory sign,
The One who claims this heart of mine.
Moses built an altar and called it The Lord Is My Banner. (Exodus 17:15)
When the battle rages, when the enemy presses,
When fear surrounds and doubt oppresses,
I lift my eyes to the banner unfurled—
The God of heaven, the Lord of the world.
My banner is not cloth or pole,
But the mighty presence that makes me whole.
He goes before me into the fight,
He turns my darkness into light.
The Lord your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you victory. (Deuteronomy 20:4)
God is my banner—not for my glory,
But to tell the world a different story:
That the battle is His, the victory sure,
And His love for His children will endure.
When I feel surrounded, weak, and small,
When I stumble and fear I'll fall,
I look to the banner raised on high:
Jehovah Nissi—my battle cry.
You have given a banner to those who fear You, that it may be displayed because of the truth. (Psalm 60:4)
God is my banner—He covers my head,
He goes before me wherever I'm led.
He fights for me when I cannot fight,
And turns my darkness into light.
So I will not fear what man can do,
For the Lord Almighty sees me through.
He is my banner, my shield, my sword,
My conquering King, my faithful Lord.
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)
And when the final battle is done,
When the war is over, the victory won,
I will stand beneath that banner still—
Not by my strength, but by His will.
Jehovah Nissi—
The Lord is my banner.
Forever and always,
My victory and my stand.
Amen.
