Put Me Under Your Wings
A Reflection on Psalm 17:8 and Psalm 91:4
Put me under Your wings—where the storms cannot reach,
Where the arrows of accusation lose their speech.
Hide me in the shadow of Your sheltering grace,
Till the danger passes and I see Your face.
Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings. (Psalm 17:8)
Under Your wings, I find my rest—
A refuge for the weary, a home for the oppressed.
No predator can snatch me, no terror break my peace,
For Your feathers are my covering, Your love my safe release.
When the night is long and the tempter prowls,
When fear takes hold and my spirit howls,
I run beneath Your wing, O God,
Where the healing balm of mercy is trod.
How priceless is Your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. (Psalm 36:7)
The hen gathers her brood—so You gather me,
Not with force, but with love that sets me free.
Not to confine, but to cradle and keep,
To bless me in waking, to guard me in sleep.
So I nestle close, Lord, under Your care.
No weapon formed against me can prosper there.
Put me under Your wings—today, tonight, always.
And teach me to sing, even in the darkest phase.
He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge. (Psalm 91:4)
Amen.
