Draw Me Close to You, Lord
Draw me close to You, Lord—not just to the edge of Your presence,
But into the holy of holies, into the deepest essence
Of who You are. Let me not stand at a distance, afraid,
But come boldly to Your throne, where grace has been displayed.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8)
The crowd pressed around You, seeking a touch, a sign.
But I want to be like Mary, sitting at Your feet, divine.
Not asking for a miracle, not clamoring for bread,
But longing just to know Your heart, to hear what You have said.
Draw me close—when the world pulls hard and loud,
When the noise of duty and distraction make a cloud
That hides Your face from my weary, searching eyes.
Break through the clamor, Lord. Let Your voice arise.
One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple. (Psalm 27:4)
Close—not in ritual or routine, but in real intimacy.
Close enough to feel Your heartbeat, close enough to see
The tears You've wept for me, the scars upon Your hands.
Close enough to understand that in Your love I stand.
Draw me close—in the morning when I rise,
In the stillness before the day begins its frantic cries.
In the evening when I lay my burdens at the door,
And in the watches of the night, when sleep comes no more.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)
For distance is my enemy, not time or space,
But the cold, familiar lie that says I've fallen from Your grace.
So pull me near, O Shepherd, call me by my name.
Remind me that in seeking You, I am not the same.
Draw me close to You, Lord—not just for comfort's sake,
But so that from that secret place, Your love I will partake.
And when I am held tightly in the arms of endless grace,
I will draw others to You, reflecting Your dear face.
Amen.
